How to make vintage metal signs?

The technology for making vintage metal signs is not very complicated. If you wish, you can make it on your own. Before you start, we will need a layout of the future sign. In fact, you can make the layout in Corel Draw. Then it is important to cut the metal so that you get the desired shape.

First of all, you need to prepare some stuff. We recommend finding a soft and clean area. Then you should print the image you want to apply to decorate your vintage metal sign. For this, it is better to visit a printing house. You also need waterproof PVA glue, clear coat lacquer in a spray can, fingers, and a cup of water. To tin your sign you will need wet and dry sandpaper, white spray paint, and a solvent to clean off the grease.

After you print off your image on paper you will have to cover the whole image with glue. The next step is to pace the glued image on the plywood and rub the paper. After that, you will have to wait for 24 hours until the surface will dry.

Cut and drill your metal sign to the right size. Do not forget to remove the sharp corners! Give you sign light sand with 600 grit wet and dry. Stick the paper on the metal and remove the paper by wetting your fingers and rubbing it off.

After the sign is thoroughly dried out it may look hazy. To make it slick and glossy we recommend spraying on a coat. Let your sign dry and enjoy the result!
